Wood and wood product export from Vietnam during the first 10 months of the current year is estimated at US$10.8 billion, which is 20% less than the figure of the same period in 2022. The key reason of this situation is the lack of orders from main markets. This trend has been major since the end of 2022 and lasting through the first months of the current year.
In September 2023 comparing to August 2023, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector went up by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.5% the EU, in accordance with the first data from Eurostat. In August 2023, production in construction decreased by 1.1% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU. In September 2023 compared with September 2022, production in construction fell by 0.3% in the euro area and grew by 0.1% in the EU.
According to Statistics data, Canadian lumber production witnessed a 1.6% fall from April, amounting to 4,008.9 thousand m3 in May. This decrease is even heavier in comparison with the figures from May 2022, marking a significant 13.8% decline year-on-year.
In June 2023, the producer price indices for beech logs demonstrated negative tendencies in Germany. On average, the index for log wood decreased by -2,5%. B grade showed -3,8. C grade in June declined by 2,5%.
The monthly price index for lumber and wood-based materials for wooden packaging and pallets fell in April 2023 compared to March.
Canadian statistic Agency reported that lumber production in the country had decreased 12.3% y-o-y to 3811.5 thousand m3 in January. This is 17.4% more than in the previous month.
The prices for German pine reduced in February 2023. On average, the index for logs decreased by 5,1%. B grade lost 8,9%, out of which 3/4 m lengths contributed with 7,4%.
In the 3rd quarter, exports of rough-sawn and planed softwood lumber from Latvia decreased by 14% to 706,951 m³, following single-digit decreases in the 1st (-9%) and 2nd (-1%) quarters.
In sales via the Internet platform e-drewno administrated by the Polish state forest administration Lasy Panstwowe, the price for oak sawlogs increased in December to an average of PLN1,713/m³ (nearly €365/m³) and therefore reached a new peak.
In the 3rd quarter, exports of rough-sawn and planed softwood lumber from Finland to other European countries fell by 26% to 764,913 m³, following decrease of 4% in both the 1st and 2nd quarters.
