Federal statistics office Destatis recorded growth of 27.1% in sales revenue in the first quarter of 2021 gained by sawmilling companies with more than 50 employees to €1.498bn.
The main factors for the increase were considerably higher selling prices than in 2020, a growth of almost 18 % in output, and an above-average increase in business abroad. The data published by the German wood industry federation (HDH) on 21 May demonstrate that sales income gained on the domestic market increased by 19.9% to €903.9m and that sales revenue from exports rose 39.9 % to €594.4m. The share of the total sales income accumulated by international business increased to 39.7%.
