In September, the estimates from 15 German states on this year’s incidence of damaged wood and the still expected volumes of wood amount to 68.586m m³ among the whole range of tree species.
The area requiring reforestation as a result of the damage has grown from nearly 140,000 ha to around 180,000 ha within the territory of the country. Together with the volume of over 31m m³ of damaged wood cut down last year, the combined volume for 2018/2019 already amounts to nearly 100m m³. For comparison, the volume of all species of wood cut in all types of forest ownerships in Germany totalled 64.362m m³ in 2018.
